Faith is the Substance of Things Hoped for
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1 KJV)
Hebrews 11:1 above gives us a definition of faith straight from God’s mouth! Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of the things which we cannot see. The word “substance” in the KJV translation means confirmation or a title deed as the Amplified Bible translates it. A title deed is a legal document that constitutes your right to ownership of some property such as your house or car. This legal document proves that you are the owner of the property. Faith in your heart is a spiritual title deed that shows you already have what you are believing!
There are two essential points to emphasize in this definition. Firstly, the very existence of faith tells you that whatever it is that you are believing God for in the Word is spiritually real. Faith is not imagination or wishful thinking. It is founded on solid spiritual substance. Secondly, faith is not just proof of spiritual reality but also of ownership. It is proof that what the Word says is already there and you have it. Therefore the very presence of faith in your heart means you have already received from God. This is a crucial statement I encourage you to ensure that you understand. Faith does not try to obtain something from God. Faith in the heart is a title deed that you already have what the Word says!
MEDITATE
What is the relationship between faith and hope in the verse above? Declare that “my faith is active and all things I am believing are already mine in Christ!”
APPLY THE WORD
This single revelation in this devotional can make the difference in your faith walk. Put your faith to work. Faith, true faith, will always triumph. One major obstacle we have today is that most of what we(believers) call faith is not real faith. Invest in building up true biblical faith by the Word and putting it to work!
PRAY
Ask the Father to open your understanding to take hold of the mysteries of faith.
