Expressing the treasure in earthen vessels
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us (2 Corinthians 4:7 KJV)
Paul says we have this treasure in earthen vessels in the verse above. What treasure was he referring to? In verse 6, he was talking about the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Godās glory is contained within earthen vessels, that is, me and you. We are vessels carrying the very presence of God on the earth. But what does God expect you to do with His presence, this heavenly treasure, in you?
Godās desire has always been to dwell and live on earth in His people as His dwelling place. This desire has been fulfilled in you and me in Christ. From a functional perspective, the Lord wants us to do certain things with His presence. The first is to experience Him. He wants your being, that is, every part of your spirit, soul, and body, to experience His glorious presence. God wants you to experience Him in your thoughts, emotions, desires, and even physically.
Secondly, He wants you to express Him. For example, when you are full of the joy of the Spirit, you are experiencing God in your emotions. When you reveal divine attributes for others to see and experience, you are expressing Him. For example, if you love someone and show them the love of God, you are expressing God. If you put your hands on the sick and they get healed, you are EXPRESSING Godās power and causing someone else to experience God in and through you.
There is a treasure in you. Godās desire is for you to not only experience but express Him.
MEDITATE
What is the difference between experiencing and expressing God, as noted above?
APPLY THE WORD
Your heart is the center point of experiencing and expressing God. Is our heart ready for God this year? As I wrote before, prepare ye the way of the Lord in your life this year! Remove what hinders the glory such as fear, sin, hate, bitterness, anxiety, etc and cultivate a conducive environment for God such as believing, joy, peace, loving heart, courage, etc. Prepare your heart for His glory in your life.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the treasure He has put in you.
