Behold I Come Quickly
And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be (Revelation 22:12, KJV)
In Revelation, the Bible’s final book, John hears Jesus Himself declare in the concluding chapter, “Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”
Jesus declares His return will be swift, a statement made over 2,000 years ago. Scripture tells us, “One day with the Lord is as a thousand years,” indicating that, from His perspective, only a brief time has passed since His ascension. This perspective underscores the urgency of being prepared for His coming. The exact timing of His return remains unknown, and should it occur beyond the next century, none of us currently reading this will be alive on Earth. Nonetheless, the unfolding of current world events hints that His return might happen within our lifetimes. Regardless of the timing, we are assured of meeting Him—either after death or during His return to earth.
Secondly, Jesus announces that His reward is with Him, promising to repay each individual based on their works. This assertion highlights the significance of our actions: our works matter. Our salvation is not by works, so this reward is not being saved. This clarifies that believers’ deeds—our daily conduct and contributions to His kingdom—are acknowledged and will be rewarded accordingly.
Indeed, the Church has long emphasized the imminent return of Christ, yet we find ourselves in perilous times. If your eyes are closed, I pray the Lord opens them to see how the world is slowly setting up the stage for the reign of the Antichrist and the unfolding of the final week of Daniel’s 70-week prophecy.
Once more, Jesus affirms, “I am coming soon.” As Christians, this promise should fill our hearts with joy at the prospect of meeting the Lord. If fear fills our hearts instead of joy and peace, that might hint that we need to make things right with the Lord, whether with our lifestyle or ministry.
Meditate
If Jesus were to return today, would you be prepared to greet Him with joy?

Remain vigilant and prepared for the Lord’s arrival. Whether you ascend to meet Him or He descends to find you here, maintain purity in your actions and devote yourself to His service.
Pray
Seek the Spirit’s guidance to stay prepared in your personal and ministerial life for the Lord’s imminent return.
