With Him is an Arm of Flesh
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.1 (2 Chr. 32:8 KJV)
Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, attacked Judah with a great military host. The nation of Judah under Hezekiah was no military match for the Assyrians, and Judah knew it. However, Sennacherib had a problem. It was not the military might of Judah. It was not the fortified walls of Jerusalem. It was the LORD, the God of the Israelites!
When the people heard that the Assyrians had come to attack them, king Hezekiah said the words in the verse above to them: “With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah”. Hezekiah called the military might of Assyria the “arm of the flesh”. He did not say they were not powerful, for he knew by all human standards that they were amongst the top in the world at the time. But Hezekiah, having seen the power of the supernatural, recognized that no matter how powerful human might is, it is limited in what it can do. He had come to understand that the spiritual trumps over the physical.
Our weapons are not of the flesh. Yes, the disease may be incurable by our current medical science. The crisis might be unsolvable by all human standards. However, the arm of the Spirit is your strength, and it has no limits. It subdues the physical and can change every natural circumstance. Let this be your consciousness, that there is nothing impossible with the arm of the Spirit.
MEDITATE
What did Hezekiah call the “arm of the flesh”?
APPLY THE WORD
Faith that is fleshly, and based on the arm of flesh breaks down when the arm of flesh fails to deliver. Have you ever been caught in a situation where you were counting on a natural solution rather than on God and thought you were really trusting in God until the natural solution failed and you realized it was not really God you trusted? Well I have also had experiences like that in the past! Sadly, a lot of what we call faith turns out to be fleshly or carnal faith counting on some natural means and not on the Word. The arm of the Spirit is your strength and this is why you cannot be defeated. Refine your faith and let it be in God alone!
PRAY
Ask the Lord to help you not to trust in the arm of flesh but on His Word alone.
