The No Murmuring Challenge
Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word: But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD (Ps. 106:24-25 KJV)
Murmuring is a big deal with the Lord. It is one of those familiar “small sins” which we commit quite frequently by acting against the Word. It is so subtle that many believers do not even see a problem with it. They think it is normal because everyone else does it. It is so easy to be carried away with sins likes adultery, idolatry, stealing, etc. but completely neglect “little” slips like murmurings and complaining. The same is true about worry and anxiety. The Word has clearly instructed us to be anxious for nothing( Phil. 4:8), just as it has instructed us to “Do all things without murmurings and disputings” (Phil. 2:14 KJV). Be a doer of the Word, whether in big or small things.
One of the reasons why murmuring is a big deal spiritually is given to us in Ps 106 above. When we murmur and complain, it is a clear evidence of our unbelief and distrust in God. Murmuring implies we perceive ourselves as being vulnerable to circumstances we do not have control over. No one murmurs about what is completely under their control. God in you is above everything outside of you. The temptations to complain are so overwhelming around us that you have to look for a reason not to complain or murmur. Take the challenge of faith today. Choose not to complain or murmur, not because things are perfect the way you want, but because God has said He is with you.
MEDITATE
What is the number one reason why you murmur and complain? Declare that “God has said He is with me and there is no reason for me to be anxious or to complain about anyone or anything around me.”
APPLY THE WORD
It is your turn. Take the challenge. Whatever you complain about is being lifted above God in your life. Trust the Lord. Resist the temptation to complain about your situation, family, friends, job, neighbors, nation or even the world!
PRAY
Thank the Lord for His abiding presence with you that protects you from evil.
