Human Spiritual Physiology

“And may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thess. 5:23 NKJ.)

Human physiology simply studies the way the body functions and operates. Once humanity finally understood the structure of the human body and how it operated, the foundation of modern medicine was laid and it changed everything. We have known tremendous medical success and advancement because of this knowledge.

If so much was accomplished by understanding how the body works, can you imagine what may happen if we could understand how the human spirit works? This is human spiritual physiology. The Word of God is the textbook for this course!

The scripture above lays the solid foundation that man is spirit, soul, and body. He is essentially a spirit being that is living on earth, and the soul is the operation center of the spirit. Man is essentially a spirit being but he is not exclusively a spirit, like the angels. He has a body to live on the earth. That implies the center of the human life is in the spirit. The body is only a display unit and the soul is the operation center.

Man’s greatest ignorance is the ignorance of his spirit. We will know very limited success if we live as though man is only his body and his mind. God’s Word teaches us that there is a spirit in man (Job 32:8), and we should learn to activate the potentials and power that are within our spirit.
