What is the Arm of the Flesh?
With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah (2 Chr. 32:8 KJV)
King Hezekiah spoke the words above when Sennacherib the King of Assyria attacked Judah. The army of Judah was no match for the invading Assyrian army. However, Hezekiah said “with him( Assyrian king) is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God.” The young David said the same thing using different words to the Goliath, the giant:
“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts..(1 Sam. 17:45 KJV)
The arm of the flesh refers to natural strength, power, might, and methods. The Assyrian army was mighty naturally but was no match for divine ability behind Hezekiah(spirit). Goliath could not be approached naturally using natural weapons of war, but he crumbled before the face of a shepherd boy with a sling in his hands because the flesh is no match for the Spirit.
The world functions by the flesh, and get the degree of results that the flesh can obtain. Our advantage in life is the Spirit. The problem is that many of us do not trust the arm of the Spirit but the arm of the flesh. Many still try to do things the way the world does. The LORD does not want you to TRUST in the flesh but Him.
MEDITATE
What is the difference between living in the flesh and trusting( or walking) in the flesh? ( 2 Cor. 10:3). Hint: living in the flesh here means living in the body on the earth( all of us do!).
APPLY THE WORD
Many believers do not trust what they have from God whereas our secret is the Spirit. Trust in the weapons of our warfare you have because they are powerful and will produce results beyond that of the flesh.
PRAY
Thank the LORD for giving you His Spirit and therefore an advantage in life.
