Highly Favored
And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women (Lk. 1:28 NKJ).
The angel Gabriel spoke these precious words to the virgin Mary when she learned she was the chosen mother of God made flesh!
The words “highly favored” in the verse above are derived from the Greek verb “charitoo”, which means “to bestow favor on” or “favor highly.” It essentially means God lavishes favor or grace someone.
But what is divine favor?, It is more than a good disposition towards someone. Favor is a tangible act of divine kindness or goodness. Divine favor is a tangible, experience of God’s goodness that has visible proof in every aspect of our lives. You cannot receive a touch of God’s favor and not have a obvious proof of it.
Mary was “charitooed” by God who chose her to be the mother of Jesus. What about you? The only other scripture that uses this verb is Eph.1:6 which says “to the praise of the glory of his grace that he has freely bestowed on us in his dearly loved Son (Eph. 1:6 NET). God has lavished his favor upon the believer in Christ! The new creation is wired to be a visible demonstration of the goodness of El-Shaddai. When people see you, they will see how gracious, kind and good God is. Praise the Lord!
MEDITATE
What are some of the tangible effects in our life story that are proof of God’s favor? See Eph. 1:3-14. Declare that “I am highly favored in Christ. All things are mine. I am a child of God!”
APPLY THE WORD
Mary was highly favored and so are you. Start thinking this way every day and giving God thanks for His favor.
PRAY
Bless the Lord right now for bestowing favor lavishly on you. Ask the Spirit to show you how to take full advantage of God’s favor in your life.
