Thank you for your sermon, very well done. I do understand and I’d like to tell you that your sermons bring me the medication I’ve been searching for – for a very long time. Thank you for being a vessel of the Lord. Beyond that, I’d like to touch on something and maybe it will expand on your application to those with addiction. I’m an addiction counselor – the problem always starts in the heart for those with addiction but as the start to injest the poison (drug of choice) it quite literally affects their brain and reverses their ability to make decisions properly. The drug becomes their “God”. The drug damages their mind and inhibits them from any form of self control; it quite literally replaces their spirit with it. For instance, the drug becomes a main priority rather than other necessities when the drug was never something they actually needed. This is why when people read the Bible they say it doesn’t work. We have to guide them because their mind no longer functions properly as it was intended. I have said since I was a child that adults are just big children…. And those with active addiction problems cannot comprehend as an adult. This is not an insult, we all struggle to have a fully mature mind in the Lord, but for them it’s been set aside usually for a very long period of time and almost virtually erased. The word of the Lord is an advanced read for them, dare I say even backwards. So, when I work with a client – they are intellectually very smart but in a backwards way. So, I must first get them to think and understand the importance of restoring their own spirit within them that produces the fruit of self control. This is like working with an infant learning to walk and reminds me of my son when he was a toddler that would take off running and then face plant every time his little toes hit the floor haha. So, I giggle, but this are important and beautiful first steps – the ones before they must consistently take to rest a list their autonomy and then and only then can we address further root o that lead to the problems of their heart.
I don’t usually have insight on much, but this one thing I do have knowledge of I hope it serves you in something, as you have also been a blessing to me.
Warm Regards & May The Lord Continue To Bless You!
Hello Megan,
Thank you for sharing those precious and encouraging words with me, and the rest of the many visitors who will read this. Yes, your experience certainly will be beneficial In talking with those who deal with addiction.
And drug addiction is an important area the Lord has out in my heart to bring healing and restoration by the power of His Word. His Word indeed will penetrate those twisted thought patterns of the addiction rain and mind, and restore wholeness “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
Hebrews 4:12 NLT. The hard part os equipping people to know how to take that word in, as you are also experiencing.
The Lord continue to increase His grace and wisdom on you.
I am pleased to know the Word you receive here has also been such a blessing to you.
Remain blessed there.
