He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Psalm 91:1, KJV)
The scripture above assures us that whoever lives in the secret place of the Most High will remain under God’s shadow. The word “dwell” is used in this text in the sense of living in a house or a place that is secure and protected. It means here that God has a secret place. Will you like to know where that secret place is?
When we read this scripture, we quickly imagine God is talking about a physical or geographical place or building. Maybe He was talking about Jerusalem, the Temple or a secret room in the Temple. The word “dwelleth” above is used figuratively, and it is not referring to a physical house. This is crucial to understand fully. The secret place of God is not a place. It is a Person! In the same Psalm, the Psalmist gives us a clue to what he had in mind by place in the first verse:
“Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, Even the most High, thy habitation” (Psalm 91:9, KJV)
God is a habitation, refuse or house you can live in! He fully revealed to us this secret place in the New Testament. That secret place is not a place, but the person of Christ! Christ is God’s secret place, and whoever is in Christ, is a new creature, filled with the Spirit, protected from the plagues that plague others, has an abundance of divine provisions, has healing in the house, etc. You are in Christ, and so in God’s secret place. Nothing can break through the protection of that secret place where you are, not even demons, diseases or poverty!
What are the similarities between God and a physical house? In other words, what are the things that happen to us in God that can be compared to someone who is in a house?
APPLY THE WORD
When there is rain, you run into your house, right? When you are hungry, you go home and eat. When you miss your wife, husband, children, brothers, sisters, parents etc, you go home to be with them. Your house is key. God says He is a House for you!! The righteous run to Him and are safe! The sick come home to Him and find healing in His house, etc. Be conscious that God has put you in His secret place in Christ and abide in it, enjoying eternal life until it overflows!
Thank the Lord for bringing you to dwell in His secret place in Christ.
