The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, And utter his voice from Jerusalem; And the heavens and the earth shall shake… (Joel 3:16, KJV)
The prophet Joel uttered the remarkable prophetic word by the Spirit in the verse above regarding the days we are living in. He says “the LORD also shall roar out of Zion”. He goes further to give us more details regarding the roaring of the LORD in the next clause saying “and utter His voice from Jerusalem.” He uses a metaphor here to describe the voice of God as the roar of a Lion. The Lion roars especially when it comes in contact with an enemy or its prey. In the prophetic verse above, the figurative language is used in the context of God speaking to subject His enemies.
The roaring of the LORD from Zion is simply the going out of the Word of God from His people to subject the enemy. God’s Word will go forth from Jerusalem and will subject the enemies of the LORD. The Psalmist vividly gives us the same picture in Ps. 110:2
“The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies” (Psalm 110:2, KJV)
The LORD shall send the rod of His strength, the Word, out of Zion and by that Word will rule in the midst of His enemies. The LORD is roaring right now from the Church, can you hear Him? The Word in us is growing, prevailing and subjecting our enemies under our feet!
The Bible is full of figurative language, and it can sometimes be a little harder to see. Can you look at the verse above and see the figurative language used in light of the devotional above?
APPLY THE WORD
What does this mean to us from a practical perspective? The Word will increase in our lives and make us rule over the issues of life such as demonic oppression, disease, fears, poverty, death, etc. When you understand what the verse is really saying and how it applies to you here and now, your excitement will go across the roof!
Ask the Lord to help you grow in the Word and roar with Him!
