For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. (Hebrews 4:3 KJV)
Deshen Daily devotional from yesterday was focused on the subject of deliverance from bondage so that we can effectively serve God. Let me discuss two of the most prevalent bondages today amongst God’s children: fear and anxiety. Fear was a bondage that kept me in a cage for many years until the Word of God brought my freedom. And I am glad to be out of that place, and there is no going back there.
Fear and anxiety are two very faithful companions of human life on the earth since the fall in the Garden of Eden. We will continue to face and hopefully subdue them as long as we live on this earth. Let me briefly review the genesis of these two powerful emotions in us. The key lies in two human capacities called “knowing” and “believing”. For brevity, I will focus on believing here.
Believing is accepting something as true and as your reality. Fear is an emotion that tells you there is imminent danger. In other words, we believe there is something in our environment that can hurt us, whether it is real or not. That belief is the genesis of fear. Look underneath any fear or anxiety you have right now, and you will realize there is something you have believed, consciously or not. When our believing is on what God has told us, for example, that He is with us no matter what is around us, rest or the assurance of faith results as in Heb. 4:3.
What are you believing?
I have struggled to condense the Truth above in this short devotional. Please take a moment to review and ensure you fully grasp what it is teaching.
