So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed (Acts 19:20, KJV)
The Word of God grows, and prevails! We are familiar with the Word of God as a seed that is planted in the hearts of men and grows. As a seed, it can grow, become a tree, and bear fruit. The word “prevailed” is quite impressive here. It is often used of a lion that prevails over its prey. It brings to mind the prevailing and dominion power that is inherent in the Word of God. As the people heard the pure Word of God preached by the Apostle in Ephesus, their hearts opened, and its influence and impact in their lives grew enormously.
It was said of Paul that he had turned the world upside down.
“And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;” (Acts 17:6, KJV)
It was not by war, killing people, obliging them to change their religion or forcing them to accept Christ. It was by the simple preaching of the Word. If the pure Word is preached and meets fertile hearts, it will grow and prevail. The Word can transform whole communities. We do not need to sugar coat it. We do not need to manipulate it. We do not need to try to make it appealing or interesting to people. The Word is the power of God to change any life and any community.
If you will allow God’s Word to grow in your life, it will prevail over any challenge or circumstance you are facing.
How can we nurture the Word of God like a seed to grow in our hearts?
APPLY THE WORD
There are three key processes of engaging the Word: it is receiving it, keeping it in our hearts and committing to doing what it says. Feed on the Word, hide it in your heart and be a doer, and that Word, like a lion, will subdue any challenge in your life.
Ask the Lord to help you connect fully and engage His Word in your life.
