And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished (2 Corinthians 3:13 KJV)
When Moses received the Law, he was with God on the mountain for 40 days. When he returned, his face was so bright the Israelites were afraid to come close to him. He had to put a veil over his face to cover the light. The Spirit gives us a remarkable spiritual significance of this event in 2 Corinthians 3. The glory was therefore hidden from Israel under the law.
The veil spiritually represents that which covers human hearts from seeing the fullness of God’s glory. It could be on our face, like Moses in which case it is a covering that prevents our face from shining. Think about this. What could be in your life that is preventing you from shining forth God’s glory? What is preventing you from seeing the manifestation of God’s power and His presence? That is an idea of an extended application of the veil.
For the Israelites, the veil was over their hearts ( 2 Corinthians 3:14-15). Their minds were blinded by the Law and so could not see the glory of God. Can you imagine that Jesus, the Son of God, came to the world and the Jews at the time could not recognize Him? The very glory of God was before them and their minds were blinded. They were blinded by the Law. They rejected Jesus, were blinded to God’s shining light, based on what they thought was correct according to the Law
I will guarantee you all of us will do the same thing today if not of the Spirit of God. The Law blinded the Jews and it will blind us today if turn from grace to it. That means as long as you try to relate to God on the principles of the Law, you will never see or experience the fullness of Jesus, the glory of God revealed. Even more disturbing is an application of this truth to our doctrines. Do you know some believes are blinded completely to the power of God based on doctrine? They would never see( experience) miracles or the sweet presence of God because their minds have been blinded by some doctrine or teaching. Ensure there is no veil over your face that is preventing you from shining or over your heart that is preventing you from seeing and experiencing the glory of God.
What is the spiritual significance of a veil as discussed above?
APPLY THE WORD
Is there a veil over your face, that is, is there something that is currently preventing you from shining in your spiritual life, ministry, marriage, finances etc? Why are you spiritually empty, dry, and frustrated? What might be causing you not to shine for God? Remove that veil from your face! If it is a veil on your heart, please take it out now to see and enjoy the beauty of God’s glory in your life!
Pray that the Spirit will help you remove every veil from your face, whether it is the Law, doctrine, a habit, that girl, that man, that addiction, that weakness, etc that is consistently preventing you from beholding the glory of the Lord in your life.
