Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight” (Mk. 1:3 KJV).

John the Baptist came as a forerunner to prepare the way for the coming of Jesus. The verse above is a direct quote from the prophesy of Isaiah, recorded in Isaiah 40:3. It was John’s voice that the prophet Isaiah spoke of, the one that would prepare the people’s hearts for the Lord.

But why did the people need to prepare? Among other possible reasons, God did not want them to miss the unique, one-time opportunity that was coming their way. The Savior was about to be born, and that event would not happen again for all of time and eternity. The season of Christmas has been set in December, but the message of Christmas lasts all year round, every day. Prepare your heart for the Lord in this unique, once a year opportunity. Better still, keep it ready for Him every single day of the year!

MEDITATE

Review the message of John in the key verse above. What preparation does your heart need in this season of Christ?

PRAY

Ask the Lord to assist you in preparing the way for Him in your life at all times.

ACT ON THE WORD!

One important implication from the verse above is that we are not always ready for the Lord. Some are not ready for His Word, His return to earth, etc. Are you ready for the Lord? What needs preparation? Respond to God and take a step to improve your relationship with the Lord today.
