And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace (Jn. 1:16 KJV)
Jesus, the Word that became flesh and dwelt amongst men, is described as full of “grace and truth” in John 1:14. Grace and truth is a common combination in the Old Testament that sums up the totality of the divine revelation to us. Jesus is “full of grace and truth” meaning the fullness of God was dwelling in Him while on the earth as a Man. The Apostle Paul further describes the mysteries of the Man Jesus:
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily (Col. 2:9 KJV)
Jesus, as a Man, was full of the totality of God. John gives us an astonishing revelation in our John 1:16 above that “ of His fullness have all we received.” We have received from the fullness of Christ, and that fullness was the fullness of God. In other words, we have received the fullness of God that was in Christ by grace. Christ’s death on the cross has lavished humanity with one gracious blessing after another to the full.
There is a divine extravagance in grace. Man fell short of the glory of God through sin in the Garden of Eden. Jesus brought the fullness of God’s glory that far exceeds what Adam lost through sin. There is no good thing in heaven that you do not have. God now dwells inside of you in His totality just as He dwelt in Jesus. He has fulfilled His eternal plan of living on the earth within us as His Temple.
MEDITATE
How did we receive of His fullness? ( John 1:12). Mutter these words as you ponder and speak them out again and again: “the fullness of God lives in me, and I am a living manifestation of the totality of God on the earth”.
APPLY THE WORD
If only we knew what we have become in Christ! Be of good cheer, marvelous things have been spoken of you from above and it is more than well with your soul!
PRAY
Thank the LORD for His marvelous grace poured out upon you.
