The Mansions of God’s House in Heaven

In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you (John 14:2 KJV)

Did you ever wonder what Jesus meant that  His Father’s House has many mansions? The thought of a house has created ideas amongst believers that heaven is a beautiful physical place with stunning villas. However, as we will see below, Jesuses uses the concept of a large house with multiple rooms to describe the Father as a dwelling place for His people.

The abstract idea of  God as a dwelling place is better understood by the metaphor of a house containing many mansions or rooms. These mansions are not physical buildings but symbolic of a profound truth. Since the Bible is replete with figurative language, errors quickly develop when we take figurative language as literal.

Generally, a metaphor uses what we know physically to explain a spiritual truth that might be difficult to understand. Jesus uses two fundamental ideas of a house, which we know and understand well: a house is a place we live or dwell in, and a house usually has many rooms capable of housing many people. He extends these two familiar ideas about houses to explain a profound spiritual truth about the Father.

Though many of us know that we are God’s  Temple or dwelling place, we should move higher and grasp the greater truth that God Himself is a dwelling place or house for His people. Scripture often describes this concept as we are in God. The most familiar description is in Christ, so Christ is a dwelling place or a house in which we live.

Therefore, though we are God’s House on earth, God is also our house in heaven!

Now that you understand God as a dwelling place explain the meaning of Christ in you or you in Christ

Apply the Word

You are in  Christ, and Christ is in God! ( Colossians 3:3). Christ, or the Father, as your dwelling place practically means He is one with us —Christ in you means you are partaking in the divine nature. So there are no houses in heaven; God has simply brought all of us to partake of Himself! Let this revelation fill your consciousness of who you are in Christ.

Thank the Lord for going to heaven to prepare a gorgeous mansion for you!
