But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8, KJV)
God has demonstrated His love for us through the death of Jesus on the cross. There are two inseparable aspects of love, especially as it relates to our normal human functioning. Love is both an inner affection of the heart and an outward demonstration. They always go together. Love in the heart has to be demonstrated; otherwise, it is dead! God loved us, and He has also demonstrated to what extent He can go because of His love for us.
The previous verse notes:
“For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—” (Romans 5:7, ESV)
You do not find people every day, showing their love for others by laying down their lives. They can buy a gift, give flowers or make other sacrifices, but when it comes to a man’s life, it is a different story. Jesus said the greatest love a man can demonstrate is to lay down his life because that is the most precious thing he has. God demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son to pay the greatest price that could ever be paid. And as if this was not enough, He gave us His best while we were at our worst.
If God gave us Jesus when we were still sinners, what would He withhold from you? Nothing! Rest in the love of the Father.
Did Jesus die for Christians only, or He died for the whole world? Does God still love sinners who still reject Him?
APPLY THE WORD
Did we cry and beg God for Him to send Jesus? No! He gave us His best while we were sinners. What about the things we need in this world now as His own children? Let this mind keep you at rest. You are the beloved of the Father, and there is nothing good that He will withhold from you.
Thank the Father for His wonderful love bestowed upon us.
